Epitalon (Epithalon)

Epitalon (epithalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) modeled on a peptide fragment originally isolated from bovine pineal gland (epithalamin) by the Khavinson group in St. Petersburg.

The most-cited mechanism in the literature is induction of telomerase activity in somatic cells and elongation of telomeres in human somatic cell culture — observations published primarily in Russian-language and translated literature from the 1990s and 2000s. Additional proposed mechanisms include modulation of circadian and pineal hormone rhythms, antioxidant activity, and effects on melatonin secretion in geriatric animal models.

The evidence base is heavily concentrated in the Russian gerontological literature and has not been independently replicated at scale in Western laboratories. Mechanism statements should be read with that context in mind.
